Quilled Poinsettia Ornament with Card Stock

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

I don't normally quill with card stock, but I wanted to make Christmas ornaments that wouldn't crush easily. Fun Stampers Journey card stock is heavier than most, but it works quite well for quilling.  Our double sided printed paper is the perfect weight for the rosette base.

Joy to the World

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

Christmas is coming! If you haven't started your Christmas Cards yet, now is the time. Here's a card I made based on a sketch from the Joruney Sketches Facebook group I'm in. All of the products I used for this card are listed at the bottom of this post and are available from my Fun Stampers Journey site at https://funstampersjourney.com/judyheadrick.

Christmas card with candle, ornament and Joy to the World sentiment.

Instructions:

  • Make the card blank from a 8.5" x 5.5" piece of Raspberry Berry cardstock.
  • Emobss a 4" x 5.25" piece of Pool Play cardstock using the Brocade Imprints embossing folder. Ink the embossed background with Huckleberry Fusion ink.
  • Adhere the embossed panel to the card base.
  • Cut a 3/4" x 1" rectangle from Whip Cream cardstock.
  • Using the sparkle tape from the Candy Apple Tape set, add diagonal lines to the Whip Cream rectangle.
  • Use the Poinsettia Burst stamp set to stamp three boughs and one set of holly leaves on Lemon Grass cardstock with Kiwi Slice ink.  Cut them out with the Poinsettia Burst Die set or fussy cut them if you don't have the set.
  • Stamp the large doily from the Decorative Doily stamp set onto Gold Mirror cardstock with Clear Pigment ink.  Emboss it with white Journey White embossing powder. Cut it out with the second to smallest Journey Circle.
  • Stamp the small doily from the Decorative Doily stamp set onto Silver Mirror cardstock with Clear Pigment Ink. Emboss it with Journey Black embossing powder. Cut it out with the smallest Journey Circle.
  • Free-hand cut the large candle frame from Summer Days cardstock. Cut the small inner frame from a gold Bloom Fetti circle.  Glue the small flame to the large flame as shown.
  • Create a mask for the "Joy to the World" stamp and use a stamp press (Misti or similar) to stamp onto Whip Cream cardstock with Cranberry Bliss and Kiwi Slice ink. Use the correspoinding die set to cut it out (or fussy cut by hand).
  • Adhere the fir boughs to the bottom left area of the card as shown.
  • Pop up the candle, flame, holly leaves and large ornament on Journey foam squares and attach them over the fir boughs.
  • Pop up the small ornament on Small Journey foam Squares, making a double layer of foam where the small ornament hangs off the edge of the large ornament.
  • Pop up the "Joy to the World" sentiment on Foam squares and attach it to the card as shown.
  • Add holly berries to the holly.
  • Add Fashion Silver and Gold dots to the ornaments.
  • Add Journey glaze to the white stripes on the candle, the holly leaves, the candle flame and the words.

Halloween Moonlight

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ MY DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

Wow, it’s August already!  It’s time to start making cards for the holiday season and  Fun Stampers Journey has some great new papers and stamps in their new Holiday Mini catalog.  I’ve been busy in my craft room and will be sharing some of my creations with you starting with this easel card.

This easy to make card features patterned papers from the Fall Fest paper pack.  I love how the Sparkle Silk makes “craters” on the moon.
SUPPLY LIST
Fall Fest Prints
Black Licorice card stock *
Whip Cream card stock *
Orange Creamsicle cardstock *
Tangerine Fusion cardstock *
Black Licorice True Color Fusion Ink Pad *
Orange Creamsicle True Color Fusion Ink Pad *
Orange Rave True Color Fusion Ink Pad *
Journey Circles die set *
Journey Ovals Die Set *
Cloud Dreams Die Set *
Holiday Clips Stamp Set *
Happy Merry Bundle (retired)
Sparkle Silk *
Sour Lemon Silk *
INSTRUCTIONS:
Cut a 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” card base from Black Licorice cardstock and score it at 2 1/8” and 4 1/4”.  Mountain fold on both score lines.
Cut a 5 1/4” x 4” rectangle from the Crows and Trees paper and then cut it in half so you have two 5 1/4” x 2” pieces of paper.  Adhere them to the front of the card so the long edges line up on the 2 1/8” score line.  This will keep the paper from tearing or cracking along the easel hinge. You’ll be concealing it with the moon and clouds.
Cut a 5 1/4” x 4” rectangle from the Ghost paper and adhere it to the inside of the card.
Use the second to largest (3”) Journey Circle to cut the moon from Banana Cream cardstock. Ink the edges with Orange Creamsicle True Color Fusion ink, then liberally splatter Sparkle Silk and Sour Lemon Silk on it.  Set the moon aside to dry.
Use the two smallest cloud cutting dies to cut the clouds from Whip Cream cardstock.
Use White Liner to attach the moon to the front of the card BELOW the score line leaving the top of the moon unattached.  Do the same with the clouds, positioning them so that they hide the score line. Cut off the parts of the clouds that hang over the edge of the card.
Use the largest Journey Oval (approximately 3 3/4” wide by 2 3/4” high) to cut an oval from Orange Creamsicle cardstock.  Stamp “halloween,” close to the bottom right.  Adhere the oval about 1/4” from the bottom edge of the inside of the card.
Stamp “Happy” onto Banana Cream cardstock and either fussy cut around it or use the Happy Merry die set.  Pop it up on foam squares and position it just above “halloween.”
Paper piece the pumpkin by stamping one pumpkin onto Tangerine Fusion cardstock and another onto Lemon Grass cardstock.  Cut them out and piece them together.  Pop the pumpkin up on foam squares and position it to the left of “halloween.”
That’s it!  Now, go forth and Follow Your Art!
