As For Me and My House...

I am really enjoying the versatility of the Reversed Banner die set.  Here, I flipped it upside down and used it to make a house, and what a cute little house it is!  I think it makes the perfect setting for this verse from the God Is Light stamp set.  This card could be used for encouragement or as a welcome card for a new church member.

Instructions

STAMPING

1. Mask off the roof on the "As for me and my house..." stamp and ink it up with River Stone ink. 
2. Remove the mask and stamp onto Pineapple Smoothie cardstock leaving enough space around it for the cutting die (approximately 1/4" above and below and 3/4" on either side).

CUTTING

1. Make the card base from an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Summer Days cardstock, scored at 4 1/4".
2. Use the largest Journey Rectangle and corresponding piercing die to cut the background from Pool Play cardstock.
3. Use the largest Journey Rectangle and corresponding piercing die to cut the grass from Kiwi Slice cardstock.  Tear across at about 1 3/4".
4. Use the 3 1/8" wide Reverse Banner die to cut the large house from Cranberry Bliss cardstock   Pierce with the corresponding piercing die.
5. Use the 3 3/4" wide Reverse Banner die to cut the roof from a 3 3/4" x 1 1/2" piece of Black Licorice cardstock.
6. Form the roof line by positioning the 3 3/4" wide reverse banner die 1/2" away from the first cut.
7. Center the 2 1/2" wide Reverse Banner die over the stamped words and cut.
8. Use the corresponding piercing die to pierce the top edge of the roof line.
9. Use the two smallest Cloud Dreams and Cloud Piercing Elements to cut the clouds from Whip Cream cardstock.

ASSEMBLY

1. Glue the clouds and the grass to the Pool Play background.
2. Glue the Black Licorice roof to the front of the Cranberry Bliss house, positioning the top of the house about 1/4" below the top of the roof line.
3. Pop the Cranberry Bliss house up on Journey Foam squares and position it about 1/2" up from the bottom and 1/2" in from the right side (it will be slightly off-center).
4. Wrap Journey thread 3 times around the background and house.
5. Make a bow on the right side as shown.
6. Pop the Pool Play background up on Journey Foam squares and adhere it to the Summer Days card base.
7. Pop the verse up on Journey Foam squares and center it on the house.

Box Envelopes

Now that you've made a card with five layers and loaded it up with embellishments, you need an envelope to put it in.  So, you measure the card, measure the thickness, get out your paper cutter and scoring tool and set to work only to find that you miscalculated and the envelope is too small.  Sound familiar?  If not, move along, nothing to see here, but if it does, try out my Box Envelope Measurement Calculator.  Just enter the dimensions of your card and it does the math for you.  It will tell you what size paper you need and where to put the score lines.  You can find it here:

Folding instructions for the simple envelope with attached flap:

Here's a diagram for the simple envelope.  The dotted lines represent score lines.  Cut on the red lines.

It should look similar to this when you're done cutting.

Valley fold all remaining score lines.  Use a bone folder or creasing tool for crisp folds.
Use a corner rounder to round the corners if desired.
Add white liner (double sided tape) to the left and right sides of the inside of the bottom flap.
Glue the tabs to the bottom of the envelope as shown.

Fold the side flaps in.

Fold the bottom flap up adhering it to the side flaps.

All done.  Now you have the perfect sized envelope for your card.


The Folding instructions are the same for the envelope with the separate large flap except that you will need to glue the top flap to the envelope before folding.

I absolutely love how the Fun Stamper’s Journey products are color coordinated.  This card features Rich Sorbets papers with the coordinating PanPastels.  Having a coloring medium that matches my papers makes it so much easier to achieve the results I am looking for.  PanPastels are so fun to work with and are very forgiving.  If you make a mistake, just erase it.  I like to use a kneaded eraser for fine details, but a regular eraser will work too.

STAMPING, COLORING and CUTTING

1. Stamp the fish onto Butter Cream cardstock with Black Licorice ink.
2. Color the fish with Summer Days and Pumpkin Bread PanPastels.  Color the fish's cheeks with Sweet Berry PanPastel.  Use an eraser to clean up any mistakes.
3. Use the Journey Circles die set to cut one 1 3/4" and three 1" circles from Beach Ball cardstock.
4. I used my stamp positioner for the following steps to make it easier, but they can be done without one.
5. Stamp, "Oops! I did it again..." on a piece of scrap paper.
6. Center the large (3.75") circle over the stamped words.
7. Stamp the sentiment on the large circle.

If you're not using a stamp positioner, remove the large circle before proceeding.

8. Arrange the smaller circles as shown in the picture and stamp the sentiment again.
9. Shade the edges of the circles with Huckleberry Fusion PanPastel.
10. Detail cut around the fish.
11. Cut an 8.5" x 11" rectangle from Summer Days cardstock and score at 4.25" for the card base.
12. Use the largest Journey Rectlangle die with the corresponding piercing die to cut a rectangle from Blue Lagoon cardstock. 
13. Draw seaweed on the Blue Lagoon rectangle with Kiwi Slice Pan Pastel. 
14. Add a sandy sea floor with Summer Days and Pumpkin Bread PanPastels.  Outline the seaweed with a fine point black marker (I used a Sakura Pigment Micron .01 pen).

ASSEMBLY

1. Use White Liner tape to attach the Blue Lagoon background to the card base.
2. Pop the fish up on Journey Foam squares and attach it to the background.
3. Glue the, “I did,” circle directly to the background as shown, making sure to leave enough room for the rest of the circles.
4. Pop up the large circle up on Journey Foam Squares and align it over the smaller circle so the words line up.
5. Pop up the remaining two stamped circles on Jouney Foam Squares and align them over the large circle.  U se a double layer of Journey Foam Squares under the edges that extend past the large circle.
6. Add some sparkle with Blue Sky sequins.

Foxy Birthday Card

I recently became a Fun Stamper's Journey (FSJ) coach and have been having fun playing with my new stamps and cutting dies.  I love that the FSJ inks match their cardstock.  You can see the results here with Happy stamped on Cranberry Bliss cardstock and Birthday stamped with Cranberry Bliss ink.  The same is also true for the Palm Fronds behind the fox, which are stamped with Kiwi Slice ink on Sweet Pear cardstock and the Palm Fronds stamped with Black Licorice on Kiwi Slice cardstock. It all co-ordinates and I didn't have to waste a bunch of time trying to find the right combination.

INSTRUCTIONS

Stamping

• Stamp Palm Fronds onto the right side of the Kiwi Slice rectangle with Black Licorice ink.
• Stamp Palm Fronds onto the Sweet Pear cardstock with Kiwi Slice ink
• Stamp the fox (Creature Comforts) onto Butter Cream and Pumpkin Bread cardstock with Black Licorice ink.
• Stamp Happy from (To You) onto Cranberry Bliss cardstock with Black Licorice ink.
• Stamp Birthday (To You) onto Butter Cream cardstock with Cranberry Bliss ink.
• Stamp the log (Creature Comforts) onto Oatmeal Cookie cardstock with Pumpkin Bread ink.
• Stamp the mushroom onto Butter Cream, Cranberry bliss and Orange Creamcicle cardstock.

Cutting

• Make the card base from a piece of 8.5" x 5.5" Pumpkin Bread cardstock, scored at 4.25"
• Use the largest Journey Rectangles die to cut one rectangle from Kiwi Slice cardstock
• Use the 3 3/4" x 2 5/8" Journey Rectangle die with the corresponding piercing die to cut one rectangle from Sweet Pear cardstock
• Cut out the tip of the fox's tail and the fox's face and tummy from the Butter Cream cardstock.  Glue them to the fox image on the Pumpkin Bread cardstock.
• Cut out the fox from the Pumpkin Bread cardstock.
• Cut out the top of the spotted mushroom from the Cranberry Bliss cardstock and glue it to the mushroom stamped on Butter Cream Cardstock.
• Cut out the top of the small mushroom from the Orange Creamcicle cardstock and glue it to the small mushroom stamped on Butter Cream cardstock.
• Cut out the mushrooms from the Butter Cream cardstock.
• Cut out the log from the Oatmeal Cookie cardstock.

Assembly

• Wrap Natural Journey Thread around the stamped side of the Kiwi Slice rectangle 3 times and finish with a bow.
• Adhere the Kiwi Slice rectangle to the card base with White Liner.
• Pop up the Sweet Pear rectangle on foam squares and adhere it to the left side of the Kiwi Slice rectangle.
• Glue the mushrooms to the lower right area of the Sweet Pear rectangle.
• Use Journey Foam Squares to pop up the log in front of the mushrooms.
• Use Journey Foam Squares to affix the fox to the lower left corner of the Sweet Pear rectangle.
• Use Journey Foam Squares to attach Happy Birthday to upper section of the Sweet Pear rectangle.

Chocolate Dipped Artful Card Kit

While cleaning the other day, I came across what was left of an Artful Card Kit I bought a couple years ago.  I had already made several cards from it but there was still quite a bit of paper and lots of embellishments left, so I decided to finish it off.

The first card I made was for my Sister-in-law’s birthday.  It’s a double slider.  It looks complicated, but is very easy to make.  I got the instructions from Teresa’s Amazing Folded Cards CD from Paper Wishes.

Pull the ribbon and both ends pop out.

The slider mechanism is made using a strip of plastic from a plastic bag.  I liked this technique so much that I used it again to make a get well card only this time I made it vertical.

The next card is a Pop-up slider.  The picture is from one of our trips to Klamath Falls.  I think it’s either a house finch or a purple finch.  They are really hard to tell apart.  I love taking pictures of birds and other wildlife and am always trying to find ways to incorporate them in my cards.

When you pull the tab at the top, the picture pops up and reveals a message.

 

I should have made the card a little bigger because when the picture pops up, it hides the greeting on the pull-tab.

Do You Need a Purr-amedic?

I made this easel card for my sister-in-law.  I searched online for get well sentiments and found some that went with my Smarty Cat stamp from Stamping Bella.  I colored the cat with Spectrum Noir pens and gave it a wobble head.
